SWVPT Dry Needling.jpg

DRY NEEDLING is not acupuncture (traditional Chinese medicine) but does use a similar type of needle. Dry needling is based on neuro-anatomy and modern scientific study of the musculoskeletal and neuromuscular systems. It is used to correct movement and reduce pain. Essentially, it's like doing manual therapy inside the body.

How Does It Work? A very fine filament needle is inserted through the skin and into the deeper tissues that are considered trigger points for pain. Dry needling establishes an environment that enhances the body's ability to heal, which ultimately reduces pain.

What Conditions Can Be Treated? Dry needling can be used to treat many conditions including: neck, back, and shoulder pain; tennis elbow; carpal tunnel; golfer's elbow; migraine and tension headaches; jaw pain; buttock pain; and leg pain including sciatica, hamstring strains, calf tightness/spasms, etc.
